Transfering Information
Now that you have internet connection and some applications, you now need to transfer your information from your old computer to your new computer. You also need to setup some of your peripherals like a wireless printer.
Tranfering Information on a Home Network
- Click on the Windows button and serach for "HomeGroup"
- Once you are on the homegroup screen, click 'Creat a homegrou', then click next
- You can now select the prefrences you want for your homescreen. Once you have picked the settings you like, click 'Next'
- Now setup a password for your homegroup. Once you are done that click 'Finish'. You have now created your own homegroup!
- Inorder to join the homegroup from other computers, you have to go to the HomeGroup page and click on the created group then enter the password.
- To share files in your homegroup, right click on the file you want to share and click 'Share with', then click either the 'Homegroup (view)' button which allows your homegroup only to view the file, or the 'Homegroup (view and edit)' button which allows your homegroup to edit your file.
- Now you can share as many files between computers as you would like!
Tranfering Information Privatally Using an USB
- Plug your USB into your computer
- Then open 'file explorer' by clicking the windows button on your keyboard and searching 'file explorer'
- Click on your USB stick to open the file containing everything on your USB
- Now find all of the files you want to put on your USB by going to file explorer and dragging any files you want into your USB file
- Once you have obtained all of the files you want and they have loaded onto your usb, click the USB image that is on the bottom right of your screen and select 'eject'
- To put the files on your USB onto your new computer,
Setting up a Wireless Printer
- Click the windows button on your keyboard and search 'devices and printers'
- Click 'Add a printer'
- Select your printer in the menu with all the local printers
- If needed, install the printer driver by clicking 'install driver'
- Complete the on-screen instructions then press 'Finsih'
- You now have a wireless printer connected to your computer
- If you want to share a printer you have, click the Wondows button and serach 'devices and printers'
- Now find the printer you would like to share and doubke click it
- Now click 'Customize your printer' and navogate to 'Sharing' on the top menu of the tab
- Now slect 'Share this printer' and create a name for the printer
- Now anyone in your network can use your printer by following the steps under Setting up a Wireless Printer
